David Flitcroft: Port Vale part company with director of football

Port Vale have parted company with director of football David Flitcroft after three years in Burslem.
The 50-year-old ex-Chester, Rochdale and Bury winger joined Vale in February 2021, having previously been manager at Barnsley, Bury, Swindon and Mansfield.
Vale won him his third promotion from English football's fourth tier in 2022.
But despite reaching this season's Carabao Cup quarter-finals, they have slumped in League One and are 23rd, six points from safety after 37 games.

After winning six of this season's first seven league games, Vale have been in freefall, having since won just two of the next 30.
Manager Andy Crosby was sacked on 5 February - but Vale have remained on a desperate run under his successor Darren Moore, having so far picked up just two points out of a possible 24.
Moore came in on an unusually lengthy five-and-half-year contract - and the hostility of the Vale fans has been publicly directed at Flitcroft, the younger brother of former Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers and England Under-21s midfielder Garry Flitcroft.
Vale said, in a club statement: "Port Vale can confirm that David Flitcroft has left his role as director of football.
"The decision has been made mutually.
"A further update will be made in due course but our collective focus now remains on retaining our League One status, as we prepare for this weekend's match against Burton Albion."
Vale will be hoping to end their current 14-game winless run against a Burton side four places and six points above them in the table.
