The wife of Marc Roberts has hinted the defender’s seven-year Birmingham City stay could be about to end. Roberts is among the eight senior players out of contract at Blues following their relegation to League One.

Blues hold an option to extend Roberts’ deal by a further 12 months and have to notify the 33-year-old by the third Saturday in May (May 18). Judging by what Roberts’ wife, Charlotte, posted on Instagram on Tuesday, the centre-back could well be on the move this summer.

“Forever proud of you,” she wrote. “A seven year adventure that I couldn’t have done without you. I’m proud of us, moving away as a newly engaged couple with our girl and going home to start our daughter into primary school.

“It’s been a journey and we’ve met the best people along the way. To the future and wherever it takes us together.”

The vast majority of Blues supporters, and those of Roberts’ former club Barnsley, presumed Charlotte’s post signalled the end of his St Andrew’s career. She later added: “P.s. this is not an announcement.”

Roberts was blighted by a series of calf injuries last season meaning he only played 16 games. In total, Roberts has played 197 games for Blues since joining the club in 2017 as part of Harry Redknapp’s infamous summer spend.
