Town Among Clubs Linked With Livingston Keeper
Wednesday, 1st May 2019 10:41

Town are among a number of clubs reported to be keeping tabs on Livingston keeper Liam Kelly, who is available for a knockdown fee this summer.

According to the Scottish Sun, Kelly, 23, has a clause in the two-year contract he signed last June which will allow him to move on for £50,000.

As a result, clubs including Bundesliga 2 side Hamburg, Celtic, Town, Wigan, Barnsley and Reading are all said to be interested in Kelly, who has enjoyed an impressive season for thre Scottish Premiership side.

Glasgow-born Kelly came through the youth ranks at Rangers but never made a first-team appearance while at Ibrox.

The 6ft 2½in tall keeper, who has won Scotland caps at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels and was called into the senior squad for the first time in March without making his debut, spent time on loan at East Fife and then Livingston before making his move to the latter permanent last summer.

Town could well be on the lookout for another goalkeeper during the close season with Dean Gerken out of contract as things stand, although the club has an option to keep him for a further season, while Bartosz Bialkowski could be targeted by Championship sides despite his disappointing campaign.

Bart's wages even with a knockdown from Relegation will probably see him moving on during the summer and would have thought that if we were keeping Dean then we would have already taken up the option of a the 1 year extension. Interesting link, but one of many we will get through the summer as PL sort out his squad for next season.

With Gerken having played the last 2 games and Bart playing on Sunday I wonder whether both will be off.

I wouldn't be against that. Gerken is injury prone. I wouldn't be against Bart staying but his wages a problem. A new youngish (mid 20s) keeper on the up would fit the bill.

Depends if he is happy to sit in celtic reserve side.

And so it begins!
We will be linked with a ton of players over the summer no doubt.
That being said it is always some what excited...unless its Leon Best.

Highly rated keeper, decent as a ball playing keeper, MOM vs Rangers earlier in the season in a 1-0 win and two clean sheets vs Celtic, young, cheap ie release clause and definitely a player we should be interested in as mentioned previously Bart's salary will still be an issue despite the relegation reduction, the downside is that speculated up to 20 clubs viewing Kelly.

I've heard locally here (Exeter) we are in for Christy Pym who is out of contract this summer. Apparently coming in as first choice which means Bart is off.

Good player, available for peanuts, sounds like a great fit! Other than the fact he will probably have more attractive options of course. Maybe if he wants to move south and we can offer him the No1 shirt vs battling for his place elsewhere? Wouldn't surprise me if both Gerks and Bart go and we look to bring in just one keeper with Wright on the bench next season.

must attempt to get all of our first team current squad out. Why not? This season says it all! Hope plans are in for a ropey start in league1, which will happen when we keep this team of zero character

I would like to see Harry Wright get a chance in League 1

"Knockdown fee." Sounds like us then. Seriously, though, we won't get him if almost anyone else is after him.

Is that the first whiff of summer........................?

The fee may be “knockdown”, but the wages won't be.

Fingers crossed that if a new keeper comes in, or promoted from the youth set up (good call Gcon) it's vital that they are capable of being comfortable on the ball. Bart and Gerks both lack this vital attribute in the modern game, as when your keepers can't play or distribute properly its invites more pressure on the back 4.

Miles.......could be a real possibility.

Had a very good season in a side which punched above their weight for much of season (favourites for relegation at start). The Scottish link reminds me of our link with St Mirren's Kenny Maclean a few years back. Didn't materialise, went to Aberdeen for £200 000, developed into a very good player and we know who he's been starring for in recent matches after an injury hit start to life in the Championship. 'They' invested in quality across the team, we didn't....enough said.

@depressed it's a bit of hearsay so take it with a pinch of salt but my brother plays 5aside with a colleague of his dad and he told him it was all but sorted and he's going in as first choice. Be a real shame to lose Bart but very understandable given our situation!

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me if both Bart and Deano went. Would have thought both are on a fair wage which would need cutting back. Saying that I don't know what quality is out there on the goalkeeper front

Need both keepers gone ASAP. We need clean sheets.

No chance against any of those other teams, we wont be able to compete with wages, bonuses etc. Gerks or Bart with Harry Wright as #2 is probably what we will have at start of season.

Bart seems to have faded post the departure of MM and Malcolm Webster. Am sure that he will attract attention and hopefully a reasonable fee. Suspect that Deano will be kept on for his experience and someone like Kelly brought in and Wright there as number 3 at least to begin with....... Busy times ahead on the speculation front......

We desperately need a vocal keeper who can help the defence out as captain calamity is just not up to the job.

KiwiTractor added 08:46 - May 2
Why would he want to come and play in Div One?

Wickets added 09:19 - May 2
Think i saw him playing against Rangers on the telly, big keeper which is always an advantage he played really well that day .

What good keeper would want to play with chambers and Skuse in front him,1 game would destroy his confidence
