Hull City, Wigan Athletic, Portsmouth and Barnsley to battle it out for League Two hotshot

According to Sky Sports News, Milton Keynes Dons attacker Chuks Aneke has caught the attention of Championship sides Hull City, Wigan Athletic, newly promoted Barnsley and League One side Portsmouth.

We reported here on The72 that Portsmouth were interested in Milton Keynes Dons star Chuks Aneke back in May. And now, it has emerged that a number of sides have joined the chase for the former Arsenal youngster.

Hull City, Wigan Athletic, Barnsley and Portsmouth have all expressed an interest in signing Aneke this summer after another strong season for MK Dons. Aneke’s 19 goals and three assists in 41 games across all competitions helped fire Paul Tisdale’s men to League One, netting 17 goals in League Two along the way.

With his contract up at the end of the season, a number of clubs are looking to bring the 25-year-old attacker in on a bargain deal.

Aneke has collected plenty of Football League experience during his career so far. While with Arsenal as a youngster, Aneke spent time on loan with Stevenage, Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra. In 2014, Aneke left Arsenal on a permanent basis, moving to Belgium to sign for Zulte Waregem. He played 50 games in two years for the Belgian side before joining MK Dons.

Aneke has been a big hit during his time with MK Dons. He has scored 33 goals and provided 16 assists along the way for the club but may not be adding to that total beyond the end of this season.

Despite playing as a striker for MK Dons in the 2018/19 season, Aneke can also play as an attacking midfielder, also dropping deeper into centre midfield on occasions. After proving himself in League One and League Two, the attacker could be set to make the step up to the Championship despite MK Dons’ promotion.
