Sunderland, Luton Town and Barnsley want Rotherham United winger

Sunderland have held discussions with Rotherham United over winger Jon Taylor.

The 26-year-old will become available on a free transfer when his contract with the Millers expires, according to a report by the Northern Echo.

Taylor is also believed to be attracting interest from Championship duo Luton Town and Barnsley.

Sunderland are keen to bolster their squad this summer ahead of another season in League One next term. They are also set to reignite their interest in Plymouth Argyle striker Freddie Ladapo, as reported by The72 earlier today.

Both Luton and Barnsley were promoted to the second tier in the last campaign and want to add Taylor’s Championship experience into their ranks.

The Hatters, who are now managed by Graeme Jones, haven’t signed anyone yet this summer but are hoping to make some strides in the transfer window over the coming weeks.

Barnsley brought in winger Luke Thomas from Derby County last week and want to further boost their attacking options by landing Taylor.

Taylor, who was born in Liverpool, started his career at Wigan Athletic but joined Shrewsbury Town as a youngster in 2008. He went onto play 143 times for the Shrews, scoring 21 goals.

He was snapped up by Peterborough United in 2014 and spent two seasons with the Posh before joining Rotherham United.

Taylor has been a key player for the Millers over the past three years and helped them gain promotion from League One in 2018.
